Celebrate in Hanover at the 24th Annual Old Fashioned 4th of July

Jul 01, 2016 04:34PM ● By Kirsten Gehlbach
The parade steps off at 10am from Hovey Lane and ends on the Dartmouth Green. The parade is known for patriotic pets, antique cars, emergency vehicles and local groups with flags and banners.

After the parade, enjoy activities for all ages from 11am to 1pm on the green. Take a pony ride, get your face painted, and go for the gold in the pie eating contest.

“Yes, the pies are all apple, since it is the 4th of July,” say Liz Burdette of the Hanover Parks & Recreation Department. Please register in advance.

If pie eating is not your thing, there will be plenty of food. Live music by Brooks Hubbard and the North Country Chordsmen, plus crafts. Want to take a step back in time? Hanover has their game on with a three-legged race and a potato sack race. Or, try your hand with an egg toss and a water balloon toss.

What might seem “old-fashioned” to some, this day is all about fun. “Kids can experience old-fashioned games,” Liz adds.

To be part of the parade, registration forms are available online at www.hanoverrec.com or email Liz at [email protected] or call 603-643-5315. Line up for the parade is on Hovey Lane at 9:15am.
